Dr. Hanna Torsh Hanna holds a Doctorate in Linguistics from Macquarie University. She is a Research Fellow at the Department of Linguistics under the direction of Professor Ingrid Piller. Her book Linguistic Intermarriage in Australia: Between Pride and Shame was published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2019 and won the 2019 Michael Clyne Prize. This is awarded for the best dissertation in the field of bilingualism of migrants and language contact. We talk about the topic of their research, couples and families with different linguistic backgrounds. There is more and more of that, not only in Australia, and as a research topic, this area is still relatively new.

Hanna is a member of the Language on the Move research team and contributes to his research blog at languageonthemove.com. This peer-reviewed sociolinguistic research site, which we also interview in this interview, was founded by Prof Ingrid Piller and recently recognized as a scientific journal, which is very unusual for a blog. It represents a new kind of accessible resource for all interested in multilingualism and linguistics, on which one can also leave comments. There is also a Twitter page. Hanna tweets about her research at @HannaTorsh.
