Nearly two years after a terrible accident which had left him with an incomplete paralysis, former Austrian ski jumper Lukas Müller fulfilled a life-long dream and toured Australia.

It was on January 13, 2016 - a day that should change the life of a young athlete forever. During a training round at the Kulm ski flying, Lukas Müller crashed and was left with serious spinal injuries.

The now 25-year-old still suffers from an incomplete paralysis of the legs.

But the former Junior Ski Jumping World Champion fought his way back.

After years of intense physiotherapy, one of his dreams came true. Lukas is currently visiting his older brother in Australia for the first time.

Before spending Christmas with his family in Melbourne, Lukas toured the continent´s East Coast together with his girlfriend.

"It´s a stunningly beautiful country", Lukas tells SBS German, "I wish I had more time here."

He describes Australia´s people as surprisingly helpful and understanding.

"Australians know when someone with a disability requires help. Another big plus is how accessibility is a very big thing here."

Lukas´ injuries still require intense physio treatment, in order to gain certain bodily functions back.

The former ski jumper also holds talks and tries to motivate others.

"I am not doing it too often since it´s challenging for me as well. But I enjoy people´s reactions and in the end, I'll try to demonstrate how life can still be full of opportunities after an accident."

Last year, Lukas Müller also accomplished an apprenticeship as a financial advisor.

But he has never been back to the place of his accident in two years. In only a couple of days, he will.

"I wasn´t there. But once I´ve done it, I guess nothing is going to shatter me after that."
