A study describes how a wild orangutang in Inodesia heals a facial wound with the help of a plant. This was observed by a team of researchers from the Max Planck Institute. The first author of the study is Dr Isabell Laumer. She is a cognitive biologist and primatologist. For more than 10 years, she has been intensively involved with great apes and parrots, researching physical and social cognition. In this interview, she explains what this observation means.
