A 29-year-old Greek-American police officer who was shot in the head during protests in Las Vegas is fighting for his life. The Orthodox Archbishop of America, Elpidoforos, took part in a peaceful protest.


Shay Mikalonis, a 29-year-old Greek-American who has been serving in the police force for 4 years, is fighting for his life. On Monday, he was called to assist a protest in Las Vegas. But an gunman shot and wounded the young policeman in the back, seriously injuring his neck. He remains in critical condition, being treated in an intensive care unit and receiving mechanical life support. He underwent surgery yesterday, shows signs of improvement, but as Las Vegas Police Chief Steve Grammas said:
He is still alive and struggling
Authorities have arrested a 20-year-old man, Edgar Samaniego, who has been remanded in custody on several counts, including attempted murder.

On his way to Brooklyn, the Archbishop of America is hopeful

His Eminence the Orthodox Archbishop of the United States of America participated in a peaceful protest and march at Brooklyn's Crown Heights, along with State Sen. Andreas Gounardis. In a statement during the march, Archbishop Elpidoforos said: “I came here today to Brooklyn to express my solidarity with my dear sisters and brothers, whose rights have been brutally violated. It was a peaceful protest, without any kind of violence, and I would like to thank all the participants, because violence only breeds more violence, " and added:
I will continue to stand by all those who work to maintain peace, justice and equality for all well-meaning citizens, regardless of race, religion, gender or nationality.

Upgraded charges against the officers involved in the death of George Floyd.

Derek Chuvin, a former police officer who knelt on George Floyd's neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds, is now charged with second-degree murder and three other former police officers who were present at the arrest of George Floyd are charged with aiding and abetting murder. Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison said justice would be served.
