The growing population of wild horses is a cause of road accidents north of Gympie, in Queensland.

The population of horses within the Toolara and Tuan forests, north of Gympie, is estimated to have increased by up to 50 per cent in the last four years, reaching around 3,000.

Forest managers said the population poses a mortal danger to residents and visitors heading to the popular Rainbow Beach holiday spot.
