Farewell Nitza Lowenstein
It is with mixed emotions Nitza Lowenstein, Executive Producer - SBS Hebrew prepares to farewell SBS after 35 years.
Her last program will air on this Sunday, 27th August. Nitza reflects on her time at SBS:
"From a very humble beginning the Hebrew program that broadcasts in English, as well, has grown to the extent where news current affairs, interviews and cultural programs are now broadcast on National Radio every Sunday around Australia and are accessible through analogue and digital radio, online, on mobile and via social media.
You can podcast our content, listen live or catch up later online.
Our aim is to inform and entertain our diverse community.
When I started 35 years ago, we didn’t have computers and Google was just a funny word.
Editing interviews on Reel-to-Reel recorders was a slow and laborious process.
I enthusiastically moved on with the times and the new technology and easily adapted to the changing world.
I enjoy editing my audio with the most advanced and sophisticated software available.
I consider myself extremely fortunate that the Hebrew program has been a “showcase” for our listeners, with the most incredible people, who make a difference to the world.
The guests’ list of the Hebrew program is very long, colourful and impressive.
It ranges from, Prime Ministers, politicians, peace makers, Nobel Prize winners, diplomats, generals, professors, doctors, lawyers, Rabbis, authors, musicians, artists, movies stars and anyone that can enrich our world.
Our programs continue to encourage dialogue, understanding and tolerance across cultural, multicultural Australia, while contributing to the audience’s sense of belonging and identity within Australia.
I am proud to be Australian and I must say that the past 35 years have been an incredible journey for me, and I hope for you as well.
I would like to take the opportunity, thanking you, our listeners around Australia, and wherever you are around the world for being part of my journey…
Thank you for your love, encouragement, and support.
I would like to thank my husband Arthur and my children for being supportive of my passion, the radio, and putting up with my weekend work.
I couldn’t do it without their love and understanding.
Shalom, from me, Nitza Lowenstein
