On Saturday, members of the Indian community and others organised protests across various Australian cities, including Canberra, Perth, and Adelaide, demanding travel exemptions for their parents. Residents from Sydney and Melbourne virtually joined the protests due to the COVID-19 restrictions. Parents of Australian citizens and permanent residents can not travel to Australia as they are not considered immediate family.
