The ambitious AUD$55 billion project promises a journey time of just 60 minutes at a maximum speed of up to 320 km per hour, which is expected to address overcrowding issues as well as Sydney's high cost of living.
Although supported by an initial funding allocation of AUD$500 million from the Federal Government and projected to open thousands of jobs as well as new dwellings, major challenges remain looming.

In addition to difficult geographical factors, scepticism arose as a result of a history of failures of similar projects in the past as well as crucial issues related to environmental impacts and protection of indigenous cultural sites.
The final decision on the continuation of the 115 km infrastructure development will only be determined in 2028 after going through an in-depth design and evaluation process.
