100 sculptural and pictorial compositions made by renowned American artist Alexander Calder on show until August 2019.
One of the most famous sculptors of the 20th century and known as the man who made sculpture move, radical artist Alexander Calder changed the course of modern art.
The new show Alexander Calder: Radical Inventor organised by the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne features over 90 works from earliest childhood sculptures to avant-garde innovations to large scale objects from the last chapter of his career in the 1970s.
A highlight is a monumental canopy display of Calder’s striking mobiles; impressively sized hanging sculptures of wire and sheet metal, which surround audiences with hypnotic and boldly coloured moving shapes.
Professor Roberta Crisci, from the Federation University Australia takes us to the NGV to discover the exhibition and told us about an interesting connection the artist had with Italy.

The exhibition was developed, organised and circulated by the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts in collaboration with the Calder Foundation.
You can visit Alexander Calder: Radical Inventor till August 4, 2019.
