** AUSTRALIA: MINISTER BOWEN CONFIRMS: “WE HAVE SECURED ANOTHER MONTH’S SUPPLY OF FUEL”

** NSW: SPRAY-ON FLU VACCINE FOR CHILDREN NOW AVAILABLE

***

Good morning from Andrea Pagani with the SBS Italian news update for Tuesday 7 April 2026. We begin in Australia, where the federal government has stated that it has secured additional fuel supplies, whilst the war in the Middle East continues to affect global supplies.

Concerns have been rising over shortages as some service stations report running out, but the government insists supply remains stable.

The government is working with key partners including Japan, South Korea and Singapore to maintain deliveries, as motorists are urged not to panic buy.

Energy Minister Chris Bowen tells Radio National that Australia holds at least a month’s supply of fuel with more shipments organised to come.

"Fuel stocks are pretty good. You know, 39 days worth of petrol, that's 1.7 billion litres, 29 days worth of diesel, that's 2.6 billion litres, and 29 days of jet fuel, that's around 850 million litres. ...   That's been pretty consistent all the way through. ... Demand is very high, but the fuel is also coming in the door through imports and the two refineries."

Let’s stay in Australia, precisely in New South Wales, which is the latest jurisdiction to roll out a nasal spray flu vaccine for young children.

Hundreds of thousands of young children will be offered a free, needle-less flu vaccine as the states move to reverse falling immunisation rates.

New South Wales has joined Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia in rolling out FluMist, a nasal spray delivered once into each nostril, designed to make vaccination easier and less distressing for families.

Health Minister Ryan Park says the move aims to lift vaccination rates.

"At the moment. we have only about 25 per cent of young people between 2 and 5 vaccinated.  What we hope to see with this flu mist developed by the team at AstraZeneca, is that number reach 40 per cent."

Let’s end with golf. Englishman Justin Rose says he won't be weighed down by what happened to him last year at the Masters.

45-year-old Rose has finished runner-up three times at the year's first major tournament, including losing a playoff to Rory Mcllroy in 2025.

As the world's best male golfers gather in Augusta in the southern US state of Georgia for this year's Masters, which starts on Friday, Rose says missing out sometimes is just part of big-time sport, and one simply has to learn to deal with it.

"You can't skip through a career without a little bit of heartache and heartbreak, no chance, If you're going to be willing to win them, you've got to be willing to kind of be on the wrong side of it as well. The key is showing up. The key is to try to be as free as you can in those moments and yeah, you kind of have to hope a little bit along the way that it's your day."

** AUSTRALIA, IL MINISTRO BOWEN CONFERMA: “CI SIAMO ASSICURATI UN ALTRO MESE DI SCORTE CARBURANTE”

** NSW, AL VIA IL VACCINO INFLUENZALE SPRAY PER I BAMBINI

***

"Fuel stocks are pretty good. You know, 39 days worth of petrol, that's 1.7 billion litres, 29 days worth of diesel, that's 2.6 billion litres, and 29 days of jet fuel, that's around 850 million litres. ...   That's been pretty consistent all the way through. ... Demand is very high, but the fuel is also coming in the door through imports and the two refineries."

"At the moment, we have only about 25 per cent of young people between 2 and 5 vaccinated.  What we hope to see with this flu mist developed by the team at AstraZeneca, is that number reach 40 per cent."
