The daily life conditions imposed by the lockdown can create the "ideal situation" to trigger domestic violence.

There are currently no reliable data on domestic violence situation since the pandemic is still going on, but Google is seeing an increase of 75 per cent for domestic violence help, the highest magnitude of searches that they have seen in the past five years, and some services are already reporting an increase in demand.

Why? Dr. Laura Tarzia, Senior Research Fellow and Deputy Lead of the Abuse and Violence Program at the Department of General Practice, The University of Melbourne, explains.
Readers seeking support can contact 1800RESPECT on 1800 737 732, Domestic Violence Resource Center Victoria and Better Man.

More information is available at Beyond Blue.org.au and lifeline.org.au. Anyone seeking information or support relating to sexual abuse can contact Bravehearts on 1800 272 831 or Blue Knot on 1300 657 380.
