Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke has announced stricter visa rules and new migration measures in a National Press Club address.

International students and those on graduate visas will no longer be able to bring their family members to Australia, though there are some exceptions, including for PhD students.

The only way foreign students will be able to extend their visas is by transferring to higher-level courses, like a bachelor's to a master's.
