Victoria Police say New Year’s Eve celebrations were largely peaceful, praising the vast majority of revellers across the state.


Acting Assistant Commissioner Tim Tully says more than 2,300 officers were deployed statewide, working alongside emergency services to manage crowds and events.

Beach goers are being warned to take care after water accidents claimed the lives of four people and left two missing over the New Year period.

The New South Wales Premier has ruled out lobbying the Prime Minister for a national royal commission into the Bondi terror attack, saying he will not politicise the issue.
