At this year’s Koori Knockout, among the cheering crowds and celebrations, one stall in particular stood out Hailah’s Yuluwirri Creations. Behind the table, surrounded by colourful canvases and handcrafted earrings, was 12 year old artist Hailah from Tamworth.
“Yuluwirri” means rainbow in Gomeroi language, a fitting name for a young creative whose artwork bursts with bright colours and culture. This year was Hailah’s first time having a stall at the Koori Knockout and it was a huge success. She met many supporters who have been following her art journey online and spent the weekend connecting with new customers and community members who were drawn to her vibrant style.
Hailah has been running her business for around 18 months and what makes her story even more inspiring is that she started it all with her own money when she won a $100 voucher. Since then, her business has grown from strength to strength, supported by her mum Jody, who helps with the behind the scenes work, from hot gluing and varnishing to managing social media, bank accounts and assisting with the other logistics.

Beyond her business, Hailah’s creativity also shines at school, where she runs her very own art class for younger students, teaching them techniques and encouraging them to express their culture through art.
From humble beginnings to a bustling Knockout stall, Hailah’s Yuluwirri Creations is proof that age is no barrier to passion, purpose or success. With her art, Hailah is not only building a bright future for herself, she’s inspiring other young mob to chase their dreams.
