Did you know you have special rights when you deal with the Australian Taxation Office? The Taxpayers’ Charter tells you what your rights and responsibilities are.

That means you can find out what we expect of you - such as being truthful and cooperative and doing your best to meet your tax obligations on time.

The Charter also explains what you can expect from us. For example, we will treat you with courtesy, consideration and respect. We will try to resolve problems quickly and fairly and keep you informed on progress. Plus, we will always keep your personal information confidential and respect your privacy.

The Taxpayers’ Charter also tells you what you can do if you want to question an action or decision we have made.

You can read more about the service you can expect from us in the Taxpayers’ Charter, which is also available in other languages. You can find it online at www.ato.gov.au/charter
