The club's organising committee organised a turban tying contest, a book and photo exhibition and a seminar highlighting the achievements and journey of the Punjabi diaspora in Australia.

Speaking at the event, one of the main organisers, Gurinderjit Singh Jassar alias Lally said the main objective of the event and contests were to create awareness about the rich Punjabi culture and heritage among the Indian community in South Australia.

"We are trying to promote cultural awareness through these events. We are also planning to set up a public library that will house books from various Punjabi authors at the club," he said.

Mr Singh said the committee had procured over 500 books that were displayed at the event, some of which were put on sale.

"Most of the books were sold. It was heartening to witness the interest of youngsters in Punjabi books," he added.
