If you ever come across a young man suspended upside down like a bat or curling his body like a human pretzel- there’s a good chance you have bumped into Jaspreet Singh Kalra.

Popularly known as India's Rubber Boy, 19-year-old Kalra is a contortionist from Ludhiana in Punjab, who has this uncanny ability to bend and twist his body into unbelievable shapes and postures, most of which is beyond the capacity of an average person.

He currently holds the title of the ‘Most Flexible Indian’ and is also listed in India's Book of Records and Limca Book of Records.
What’s really amazing is that Mr Kalra is completely self-taught. Although he has been practising advanced yoga since an early age of twelve, he soon realised that his ability to contort was extraordinary.

“I can’t say I was born with this ability or perhaps I always had it but it took me a few years to realise. Honestly, I think it’s a combination of both inherent and an acquired talent which I have honed after years of rigorous practice,” Mr Kalra told SBS Punjabi.

Presently, studying business and accounting in Canada, Mr Kalra is vying to become the most flexible person in the world- a title currently held by American contortionist Daniel Browning Smith, the man who inspired him to embark on this journey.

“I used to see his videos on YouTube. He could rotate his head and dislocate his shoulders. Seeing him I felt, if he can do it, so can I and that is how I started training,” told Mr Kalra.

This twisty teen is now striving to register his name in the Guinness Book of Records- a feat he is hoping to accomplish in the coming years.

Besides being a world-recognised contortionist, Mr Kalra has big dreams.

“My ultimate dream is to open yoga studios where I can teach my own form of yoga which will be a mix of both modern and traditional practices,” said Mr Kalra.
