The Australian government has announced $300,000 financial assistance for the Australian Sikh Games to be held in Perth over the Easter weekend in April 2020.
The announcement was made just before elections by the Liberal candidates Steve Irons and David Goode at Curtin Stadium, Perth.
Gurdarshan Singh, who is the Chairman of the Perth Sikh Games organizing committee, has thanked the government for this financial support.
“It is amazing to see this support coming from our federal representatives. We are very thankful for this major financial boost,” he told SBS Punjabi.
“We are glad that government acknowledges our presence as a growing community that is contributing at both social and economic levels.”
The Liberal party had made this announcement just before the elections as part of their pledge to the Indian community.

The statement reads – “The Morrison Government will invest $300,000 to make sure the Sikh Games will be hosted in Perth next year. This is in addition to the $2.5 million delivered for the ISWA - Indian Community Centre.”
“The Morrison Government is investing in the Australian Sikh Games in Perth to support our local volunteers and our community, supporting volunteers who give so much of their time and effort but need some assistance with the big infrastructure costs of special events like the Australian Sikh Games in Perth.”
"The Australian Sikh Games in Perth will benefit the entire Sikh community in Western Australia and will be organised by hard working volunteers who actively contribute to our local Sikh communities, including from the Sikh Gurdwara in Bennett Springs and Canning Vale Gurudwara Sahib."
The annual Sikh Games is the premier sporting and cultural event of the Australian Sikh community.

The Australian Sikh Games are held every year and are a celebration of Sikh culture, promote physical activity and health and well-being, and provide the whole community with the opportunity to participate in and enjoy unique sporting and cultural experiences.
Over 40,000 people are expected for the weekend of sports which is to be held at a range of venues throughout the Curtin stadium, Perth in April 2020.
