India’s top court has rejected yet another plea seeking an independent investigation into the death of veteran actress Sridevi, who died of accidental drowning in her hotel room in Dubai on February 24th.
The three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra told petitioner Sunil Singh that the court had already rejected two similar pleas in the past and would not entertain another.
Mr Singh, who has claimed to have directed and acted several Indian movies, had in his plea contended that the actor who was 5 feet 7 inches tall could not have drowned in a bathtub that was 5 feet 1-inch long.

Mr Singh who was in Dubai at the time of the incident claimed he personally visited the hotel where the star died, spoke to their staff who shared inside information with him that he alleged was contrary to what the investigations had revealed.
His counsel further argued before the Court that Sridevi had insurance policies amounting to a large sum in her name which could only have been payable if she died in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Mr Singh had initially filed the petition before the Delhi High Court which had also refused to hear the case stating that authorities in India and Dubai had already investigated the matter and therefore no further inquiry was needed.
Earlier, similar questions were also raised by Subramanian Swami, a legislator from India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party who had called Sridevi’s death a “murder”.
