The Asian Athletics Championships started in Bhubaneshwar, India, on 6th July 2017.
Manpreet Kaur, who came back after a break due to child birth, clinched the gold medal in the woman’s shot put with a throw of 18.28 metres.
27-year-old Manpreet hails from a village near Patiala, Punjab and will now focus on the IAAF World Championships to be held in London next month. Although, the winner of the Asian championships automatically reserves a place in the World Championships, Manpreet had already won a berth for herself in the World Championship earlier this year in Asian Grand Prix in China with a throw of 18.86m.
As Hindustan Times reports, after a winning performance at the Asia meet, the shot putter had said that it had been a great confidence booster for her.
