Victoria Police are investigating an alleged sexual assault reported to have occurred on a Melbourne tram on the night of February 16th.
According to police, a 20-year-old female passenger boarded the 57 tram outside the Queen Victoria Market at about 10.30pm.
As the tram headed toward West Maribyrnong, an unknown man approached her and indecently assaulted her, says police.
The police have released a CCTV image of a man who they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.
The man is perceived to be of Indian Sub-Continental appearance with a beard and was wearing a red T-shirt, black pants and a black turban.
The victim told the police that she didn’t realise what had transpired until a female passenger alerted her and came to her rescue, after which the man fled the scene.
Talking about her fears, the woman told 7News that she had spent the last two months in anxiety and fear that he may strike again.
"If this man has done this to me and kind of thinks that he got away with it, it's the kind of offence that he could repeat”-Victim
Investigators would like to speak to the female commuter that assisted the victim or anyone who may have witnessed the incident.
