Yes, you heard it right. All that glitters is now cool as a cucumber, rather an ice cream. Gold-plated food is actually an edible thing and is an emerging trend in the culinary world.
From chicken to chocolate, dusting food with gold is the latest grub craze that has taken almost all things esculent by storm. And now this extravagant trend has found its way into India where gold never goes out of fashion.
This time though, the bling was not just spotted around the flamboyant Bollywood music composer Bappi Lahiri’s neck, but instead, we found it perched on an ice-cream.
Huber and Holly is an ice-cream chain with outlets in three Indian cities - Mumbai, Ahemdabad and Hyderabad.
The parlour serves the delish dessert contained in a waffle cone that is packed with a scrumptious chocolate brownie, dollops of hot fudge, nuts, praline, dark chocolate ice-cream, passion fruit juice and to deliver the final punch is topped with the showstopper-fine 24-carat gold flakes, which once put together look too good to eat.
We bet you want to grab one right away, but are you ready to fork out anywhere between $20-45 for a cone? Yes, that is how much a gold covered ice-cream costs.
Looking out for inspiration to spend that kind of money? Here! Actress Shilpa Shetty was recently spotted with the precious gold cone while vacationing in Hong Kong.
For those here in Australia who want to try if it tastes as good as it sounds- don’t just find another reason to fly to India, for the dessert is available right here on the streets of Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide among other places.

And for the sceptics wondering if one can eat away gold and still wake up the next day, here’s what you must know:
-Gold fit to be consumed must be pure- at least 23 to 24 carats and eaten in reasonable quantities.
- Beware, that edible gold can’t be broken down by your body and most likely will be eliminated as waste.
-When added to food, it does not alter the flavour.
-And last, but not the least, edible gold is not the same as gold used for jewellery which can be dangerous to consume so don’t go biting away on your necklaces.
