Preparations for the 17th Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) are in full swing, with the event set to take place in Melbourne from 13 to 23 August 2026. This year, over 130 films in over 30 languages will be showcased, with Sitaare Zameen Par, Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1, and Saiyaara receiving the highest number of nominations. Notably, Punjabi cinema will also have a special representation at this year's festival, including Anmolveer Sidhu's film "Kikkran De Phull" featured in the lineup.
The festival will kick off with Awards Night on August 13, followed by Opening Night on August 14, Independence Day celebrations at Federation Square Melbourne on August 15, and will conclude with Closing Night on August 23. During this time, Indian actress Rani Mukerji will also be honoured with an honorary doctorate from La Trobe University. Alongside film screenings, the festival will feature panel discussions, masterclasses, and several cultural programs. Tune in to this podcast for more information.
