The Federal govt announces that the number of migrants granted permanent residency in Australia during this financial year will remain same as last year.

Two days after the nationwide protests against mass migration, the Federal government has announced that it will not change the permanent migration numbers. A total of 185,000 permanent visas will be available in 2025-26, same as 2024-25. For those hoping to secure Australian permanent residency, what does this mean?


Australia will grant 185,000 permanent visas during the financial year 2025-26. This includes skilled workers, humanitarian visas, and family visas for current residents. In its statement, the government said the focus will remain on skilled migration.
