Mr Singh, now a senior research scientist at the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development in New South Wales, says his farming lineage has given him an edge in his work.

With nearly a decade of experience in food safety, Mr Singh is best known for his role in the Melon Project. The initiative was launched to restore consumer confidence in melons after a listeria outbreak caused several cases of rockmelon poisoning.
