On his Australia tour, we recorded an interview with UK-based Mohan Singh, founder of the Sikh Awareness Society, about the increasing risks of online grooming for young people and the need for open conversations around relationships and sex education in Punjabi families. Singh says grooming is often a gradual process of controlling a young person’s trust and thinking, with digital platforms now a major entry point. He urges parents to watch for warning signs such as changes in behaviour, secrecy, unexplained gifts, and emotional withdrawal, and to speak honestly with children about safe relationships, boundaries, and how to report concerns. With decades of experience supporting victims, Singh has also appeared in the BBC Inside Out documentary on grooming.
