A 19-year-old Indian-origin international student from Punjab has died after being struck by a car outside a shopping centre car park in Bentley, Perth. Komalpreet Kaur had moved to Australia less than a year ago to pursue her studies and build a better future. Speaking to SBS Punjabi, her grieving family remembered her as a bright and hardworking young woman full of life and hope, as police continue to investigate the fatal crash.
Western Australia Police said the 19-year-old was critically injured after being struck by a blue Hyundai i30 in the parking area of a shopping centre on Albany Highway in Bentley around 11.30pm on 16 May. She was taken to Royal Perth Hospital, where she later died. Police say the 19-year-old driver is assisting investigators with inquiries.
Her family told SBS Punjabi that Komalpreet Kaur, originally from Kalsiyan village in Ludhiana district of Punjab, had moved to Australia in July 2025 as an international student and was working part-time alongside her studies to build her future. Heartbroken by the tragedy, the family has also shared a special message for the Punjabi community.
