ਪਿਛਲੇ ਹਫਤੇ ਐਡੀਲੇਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਾਰੀ ਗਈ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਨਰਸ ਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨਿਯਮਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਨੂੰਨਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਨਜ਼ਰਸਾਨੀ ਦੀ ਮੰਗ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸਦੇ ਤਹਿਤ ਬਜ਼ੁਰਗ ਸੜਕਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਵਾਹਨ ਚਲਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਬੋਲਦਿਆਂ ਰਮਨਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸਬੰਧਿਤ ਅਦਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਥਿਤੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਇੱਕ 'ਜਲਦ ਅਤੇ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ' ਸਮੀਖਿਆ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਤਹਿਤ ਬਜ਼ੁਰਗਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੜਕਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਵਾਹਨ ਚਲਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਇਜਾਜ਼ਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ - ਉਹਨਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਅਜੇ ਵੀ ਹਾਦਸੇ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕਾਰਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰਾਂਹ ਵਾਕਿਫ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਦੱਖਣੀ ਆਸਟ੍ਰੇਲੀਆ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਨੇ ਐਸ ਬੀ ਐਸ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਹਾਦਸੇ ਲਈ ਕਥਿਤ ਤੌਰ ‘ਤੇ ਇੱਕ 82-ਸਾਲਾ ਬਜ਼ੁਰਗ ਡਰਾਈਵਰ ਜਿੰਮੇਵਾਰ ਹੈ ਜਿਸਨੂੰ ਲਾਪਰਵਾਹੀ ਨਾਲ਼ ਵਾਹਨ ਚਲਾਉਣ ਦੇ ਦੋਸ਼ ਲਈ ਅਦਾਲਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਏਗਾ।
ਐਸ ਬੀ ਐਸ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਨੇ ਹੋਰ ਵੇਰਵਿਆਂ ਲਈ ਵੀ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਪਰਕ ਕੀਤਾ - ਖਾਸ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਦੇ ਜੀਆਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਜ਼ਾਹਿਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਵੀ ਸਵਾਲ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ ਗਿਆ - ਕਿ ਕੀ ਕਥਿਤ ਦੋਸ਼ੀ ਦਾ 'ਡਰਾਈਵਰ ਲਾਇਸੈਂਸ ਕੈਂਸਲ ਜਾ ਰੱਦ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਜਾਂ ਇਹ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਅਜੇ ਵੀ ਗੱਡੀ ਚਲਾਉਣ ਦੇ ਕਾਬਲ ਹੈ'।
ਇਕ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਬੁਲਾਰੇ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਹ ਮਾਮਲਾ ਅਦਾਲਤ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਤਫਤੀਸ਼ ਚੱਲ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਟਿੱਪਣੀ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।”
ਰਵਨੀਤ ਕੌਰ 2008 ਵਿੱਚ ਨਰਸਿੰਗ ਦੀ ਪੜਾਈ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਆਸਟ੍ਰੇਲੀਆ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਐਡੀਲੇਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਈ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਹੁਣ ਉਹ ਇੱਕ ਨਰਸ ਵਜੋਂ ਸੇਵਾਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ।
ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਰਵਨੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਅੰਤਿਮ ਰਸਮਾਂ ਮੰਗਲਵਾਰ 10 ਸਤੰਬਰ ਨੂੰ ਐਡੀਲੇਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਣਗੀਆਂ।
ਦੱਖਣੀ ਆਸਟ੍ਰੇਲੀਆ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਮੁਤਾਬਿਕ 29 ਅਗਸਤ ਨੂੰ ਐਡੀਲੇਡ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਕਾਰਪਾਰਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਏ ਹਾਦਸੇ ਪਿੱਛੋਂ ਰਵਨੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਨੂੰ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਜ਼ਖਮੀ ਹਾਲਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਾਇਲ ਐਡੀਲੇਡ ਹਸਪਤਾਲ ਲਿਜਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਜਿਥੇ 1 ਸਤੰਬਰ ਨੂੰ ਉਸਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਸੀ।
ਆਸਟ੍ਰੇਲੀਆ ਵਸਦੇ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਨੇ ਉਸਦੇ ਪਤੀ ਭੁਪਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨਾਲ਼ ਦੁੱਖ ਵੰਡਾਉਂਦਿਆਂ ਸ਼ਰਧਾਂਜਲੀ-ਰੂਪੀ ਸੁਨੇਹੇ ਸਾਂਝੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ।
ਮ੍ਰਿਤਕਾ ਦੇ ਦੋ ਛੋਟੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਹਨ ਜਿੰਨਾ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਮਹਿਜ਼ 7 ਅਤੇ 1 ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਹੈ।

The family of an Indian woman who died in Adelaide last week has demanded a review of the rules and regulations* under which the elderly can drive on the roads.
Mother of two, Ravneet Kaur had died in hospital after being struck by a car at North Park shopping centre in Adelaide on August 29.
At the time of the accident, Ms Kaur was crossing a road, wheeling a grocery-trolley when a car driven by an elderly man allegedly struck her and 'dragged her for metres’ causing serious injuries.
She was taken to Royal Adelaide Hospital in a serious condition where she succumbed to her injuries on Sunday.
Family spokesperson Ramanpreet Kaur says they want an 'urgent' governmental review of the conditions under which the elderly are allowed to drive on the roads.
“We are talking about a young life lost in such tragic circumstances. It is not for us but for all Australian families who don’t want to see this happen again,” she said.
We understand that there is a limit to what Police could do in this case as we're talking about an 82-year-old elderly man who could also be going through a traumatic situation.
She said that the family is still searching for answers on what caused the accident.
“We don’t know if it was negligence, human error or even poor reflexes owing to old age. So we’ll wait for the investigation to complete and the court verdict before further making any further comments,” she adds.
Ms Kaur’s husband Bhupinder Singh who is dealing with ‘sheer grief and loss’ wants to see someone take responsibility for what he describes as a ‘shocking accident’.
“This is very painful… No one wants to see this happen to their loved ones. Our world has been ripped apart and we need answers to find what went wrong,” he said.
The authorities really need to do something about the safety of people or they can just say human error to forget and let it happen again.
Mr Singh said that he is concerned to know if Police notified the relevant authorities to ‘put a hold or cancel the license’ of the alleged offender.
“We were made aware that police did not put any charges related to culpable driving causing death. But our major concern is whether the man in question is still free to drive on the roads and authorities are doing nothing about this serious matter,” he said.
SA Police told SBS Punjabi that an elderly man has been reported for a string of driving offenses over the crash that left Ms Kaur dead in Adelaide.
The police statement reads - “We can advise that an 82-year-old man from North Adelaide was reported yesterday for aggravated driving without due care. He will be summonsed to appear in court.”
SBS Punjabi also contacted Police for further details specifically asking for the family concern if the man in question is ‘still able to drive’.
“As the matter is before the courts and is subject to a coronial report, SAPOL will not make any further comment,” said a police spokesman.
Meanwhile, tributes are flowing for the crash victim as people remember her as a "beautiful and noble soul" who had a caring attitude towards her friends and family members.
Ms Kaur was a registered nurse who moved to Australia about ten years ago.
She is survived by her husband, and two young sons, aged 7 and 1.
Her funeral service would be held on Tuesday 10 September.
The Indian Australian community has come forward to provide financial support to the grieving family.
An amount of over $9,000 has been raised so far from more than 200 donations in just two days of setting up a fundraiser on Facebook.
