ซูเปอร์มาร์เก็ตยักษ์ใหญ่ Coles กลายเป็นผู้ค้าปลีกรายล่าสุดที่นำสินค้ากว่า 12 รายการออกจากเชลฟ์ทั่วออสเตรเลีย เนื่องจากกังวลเรื่องการปนเปื้อนของแบคทีเรีย
Coles ได้เรียกคืนผลิตภัณฑ์ผักโขมที่จำหน่ายระหว่างวันที่ 20 มีนาคมถึง 29 มีนาคม ซึ่งมีวันใช้งานถึงวันที่ 9 เมษายน เนื่องจากอาจปนเปื้อนจุลินทรีย์ (STEC)
STEC คือแบคทีเรียอีโคไล (Escherichia coli) และผลิตภัณฑ์อาหารที่ปนเปื้อน STEC อาจทำให้เกิด โรคกระเพาะอาหาร และลำไส้เล็กอักเสบ (Gastroenteritis) ซึ่งอาจทำให้เกิดอาการป่วยรุนแรงได้
ผักโขมบรรจุถุง 17 รายการที่จำหน่ายในรัฐวิกตอเรีย แทสเมเนีย ควีนส์แลนด์ นิวเซาท์เวลส์ และACT รวมถึงสินค้าบางส่วนในเซาท์ออสเตรเลียและนอร์เทิร์นเทร์ริทอรี
