In Pakistani society, where even men dancing indoors is often considered inappropriate, there is a young man who chose to become a belly dancer. He faced strong backlash for this decision—his family taunted him, relatives mocked him, and friends labelled him in various ways. However, driven by his passion and determination, he overcame social barriers and became not only Pakistan’s first male belly dancer but also carved out a unique identity for himself.
Yousha Hussain has now established himself as Pakistan’s first male dancer; however, he still faces several challenges.
Recalling his unique yet interesting journey, Yousha Hussain said that in the beginning he was even told, “You are a boy, why are you doing all this? Are you a Mirasi?” Along with this, he was labeled with various names and titles.
Recalling his first belly dance performance, Yousha said he felt very nervous at the time, but at the same time, he was excited to perform in front of hundreds of people.
