Dr Arzoo Khalid, Gynaecologist and Head of Obstetrics Unit at Northern Health Melbourne says that is not true.

“I can sincerely reassure you that this is a myth,” says Dr Khalid.

“Based on information from a study in the US, vaccines are very safe and there have been no fertility issues found in both men and women.

“Vaccination is very safe, when your planning for pregnancy, while you are pregnant or while your breastfeeding.”

According to the Department of Health, none of the COVID-19 vaccines currently approved or under review by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) causes infertility.

Which vaccine is recommended for pregnant women?

The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) recommends the use of Pfizer or Moderna for pregnant women and those looking to conceive.

Dr Khalid tells SBS Urdu that the “Pfizer vaccine is very safe during pregnancy.”

“You can get the Pfizer vaccine at any stage of the pregnancy,” says Dr Khalid.

“After the birth of the baby you can get any of the three vaccines available Pfizer, Moderna or AstraZeneca and they are safe for you and the baby.”
