Australia’s entry into the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation program is being hailed as a major opportunity for the country’s manufacturing, education and research sectors. Experts say the real value lies not only in funding, but in access to world-leading industrial and academic networks.
Australia’s decision to join Horizon Europe, the European Union’s flagship research and innovation program, is being viewed as a significant milestone for the nation’s future in research, industry and education. Horizon Europe is one of the world’s largest research and innovation initiatives, providing access to billions of dollars in funding as well as extensive international collaboration opportunities.
Academic and researcher Muhammad Nawaz says the initiative presents Australia with an opportunity to strengthen its manufacturing capabilities and move beyond an economic model heavily dependent on raw material exports. Through closer engagement with European partners, Australia could accelerate the development of value-added manufacturing, technological innovation and industrial competitiveness.
