Celebrating Eid and SBS50 with the Urdu program's past and present curators

SBS Urdu hosted a special SBS50/Eid show to mark both Eid and the 50th anniversary of SBS. Former and current producers of the Urdu program, from its beginning in the 1970s to the present, were invited to participate.

The joint broadcast from Sydney and Melbourne discussed the Urdu program’s journey and its future in the digital era.

Hosted by Rehan Alavi, it featured reflections from former hosts and producers, including Mr. Salahuddin Ahmed, Ms. Yasmin Sayed, and Mr. Ashraf Shad.

Current producers and long-time listener Mr. Aqeel Shah also participated, while SBS's Head of Language Content, Davide Schiappapietra, shared the vision for SBS50.

Throughout the journey, the team covered historical news & events, celebrity interviews, outside broadcasts, radiothons, talkback, fundraising, and community activities.

Today, SBS Urdu is part of SBS Audio and SBS South Asia, reaching new immigrants and the established Urdu-speaking community from major cities to regional Australia through digital platforms.

The average monthly video watch for SBS Urdu exceeds 200,000, and its average podcast downloads surpass 15,000 each month.
