Talking to SBS Urdu Migration Law Adviser, Shakil Ahmad said that changes in the government are cosmetic as they occurred due to party rebellion.
“The party policy on major matters will continue to be the same. The biggest evidence is that Peter Dutton got back the portfolio of Home Affairs. So he will be indirectly controlling the immigration too.”
On the issue of visas and intake of migrants, Mr Ahmad said we have witnessed a remarkable drop already in the intake.
“There has been a ten per cent drop in the last immigration intake. Similarly, there are lots of issues with visas being cancelled and other problems related to refugees.
I believe the new Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs, David Coleman, will be focusing on streamlining the immigration processes."
"People were hoping to see at least a different face, but we did not see any change.”
Visas and immigration offers – Federal and State
CEO of Migration Law Experts in Melbourne, Kashif Khan says there seems to be no possible change by the government in any policy.
“At the national level I don’t foresee changes in terms of visa policies but we have already witnessed some new additions at state level requirements.
"There are possibilities of changes in Tasmania as there policy is quite broad. So we could see some change in the future.
"There are people who have moved from Melbourne, Sydney and Perth to Tasmania. Although it is a small state compared to others.
"State migration by Australian Capital Territory (ACT) is currently closed. We might see reopening in a few months.
"We could possibly see some regional offers for migration by Western Australia."
Last week, the Australian government witnessed a complete shake-up at the top as Malcolm Turnbull was ousted as Prime Minister with Scott Morrison coming out as the surprise winner.
