Covid-19 has made it harder to change career after 50 but help is available

COVID 19 has made it even harder for mature people to change jobs however various training and apprenticeship programs are helping in improving the situation.


 Brotherhood of St Laurence report estimated that last year nearly 40,000 Autsrrain aged between 51 to 65 had their employe impacted by COVID-19. Human resources institute survey indicated a trend of unwillingness among 68 percent of businesses to hire over-50 workers in 2018 and COVID-19 made it worsen. 

Organizations such as VERTO have been busy helping senior job seekers re-train for career change through government-funded skill checkpoint programs.

Raymond Hon finishing his Job posting in Japan when the international border closure made it hard to return back to Australia. 57 years old former automobile executive Raymond decided to take the challenge. He decided to become an online leadership coach.

Raymond says that mature-job seekers can still find work amidst a pandemic if they have the right story to sell.

Raymond adapted to the rapidly changing business environment to succeed and similar courage and resilience are witnessed by other experts in older workers. Ron Maxwell, chief executive officer of not-for-profit employment and training organization recommends that mature-age job seekers offer their service as contractors whilst searching for the next career opportunity.
