Pakistan’s women’s football team has been working to establish itself on the international stage despite limited resources and structural challenges. Recent matches have shown noticeable improvement in performance, drawing attention to a team that is steadily trying to redefine its place in the global game.
Captain Maria Khan says the squad’s confidence has grown significantly over the past few seasons. She highlights the importance of overseas-based players, emerging local talent, and increased international exposure in helping the team develop a more competitive edge.
According to Khan, women’s football in Pakistan still faces key obstacles, including infrastructure gaps, lack of a consistent domestic structure, and financial constraints. However, she believes recent results prove that with sustained support and opportunity, Pakistan can become far more competitive at the international level.
She adds that while qualifying for the FIFA Women’s World Cup remains a long-term goal, it is no longer an unrealistic dream. The current squad, she says, is not just focused on short-term results but is also working to lay a stronger foundation for the next generation of women footballers in Pakistan.
