For many young footballers, wearing the national jersey remains a distant dream. But for Melbourne-based teenager Ahmed Faraz Gulzari, that dream became reality at an exceptionally young age. In this SBS Urdu podcast conversation, Gulzari shares how his football journey began in Melbourne and eventually led him to represent Pakistan on the international stage. His story is one of talent, hard work and persistence — moving from local Australian grounds to wearing Pakistan’s green national colours.
Speaking about his experience in Pakistan, Gulzari says he witnessed immense untapped football talent across the country, particularly at grassroots level. At the same time, he observed the challenges faced by aspiring players, including limited opportunities, structural barriers and the difficulties associated with pathways to professional football.
The discussion also explores what it feels like to reach the national team at such a young age, and how the experience changed his perspective on football development in Pakistan. Gulzari reflects on the passion surrounding the sport and the need for stronger systems to support emerging players.
