Unity in Diversity: Iftar at the Governor-General’s residence highlights social cohesion

On 23 February, during Ramadan, an interfaith Iftar was held at the Australian Governor-General’s Sydney residence, Admiralty House, hosted by Her Excellency Ms Sam Mostyn AC and SBS. Guests included Muslim, Christian, and Jewish leaders, parliamentarians, and community figures.

In this podcast, hear Australian Governor-General H.E. Sam Mostyn, Imam Shady Al-Suleiman, Rabbi Zalman Kastel, and Aftab Malik share their views on social cohesion, interfaith respect, and efforts to combat Islamophobia and antisemitism.

Aftab Malik, Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia, said tackling Islamophobia is crucial for Australia’s social cohesion.

Rabbi Zalman Kastel, National Director of Together For Humanity, stressed addressing antisemitism through dialogue and education.

Governor-General H.E Sam Mostyn highlighted her close ties with Australian Muslims, while Imam Shady Al-Suleiman urged correcting misconceptions about Muslims.

The Iftar also included Grand Mufti Dr Ibrahim Abu Muhammad and leaders from Christian, Jewish, and Muslim communities.
