All mosques and mussalas are closed in Australia currently and Muslims are abiding with instructions of the authorities about public gatherings. The fasting month of Ramadan is due to start in a few weeks. The holy month is widely marked with mass gatherings in mosques for community Iftar and special night prayers. Australian Muslims’ Imams are appealing to the community to observe the restrictions and advising Muslims to worship individually at homes to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus epidemic. Maulana Uzair Akbar, the imam of Brisbane's Holland Park mosque and Dr. Shabbir Ahmed, the imam and khateeb of Quba mosque Sydney are advising followers to adhere with the advice and instruction of health and government officials.
