Distinguished Professor Rahat Munir, Head of the Department of Accounting and Corporate Governance at Macquarie University in Sydney, specialises in management and forensic accounting, financial crime, sustainability and governance. Speaking to SBS Urdu, he discussed his journey from banking to academia, his reaction to receiving the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, his research, international students and academic links with Pakistan.
Professor Munir’s research spans management accounting, corporate governance, financial crime, sustainability and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. He has also received the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz from the Government of Pakistan in recognition of his contributions to higher education.
Professor Rahat Munir says international students should thoroughly research their study options, living costs and plans before coming to Australia. He says students should prioritise their education rather than expect employment alone to cover their expenses.
