Once told he would never be part of the Australian team, Usman Khawaja is set to retire from international cricket after playing 15 years for Australia. The renowned batsman scored 16 centuries and more than 6,000 runs in 87 Test matches and is also known for his outspoken support for the people of Gaza. Australia’s first Muslim, Pakistani-born star cricketer, will retire after the fifth Ashes Test against England at the Sydney Cricket Ground this week. Pakistani-born Australian cricketer Usman Khawaja made his Test debut at the same venue during the final match of the 2011 Ashes series, where he is now set to play his final innings before retirement. He scored more than 6,000 runs in 87 Test matches at an average of 43, including 16 centuries, and is also known for his clear, principled support for the people of Gaza.
