Despite the ANZAC's closeness between the two countries, little is known about the fact that New Zealand was once part of the Australian state of New South Wales. More interestingly, the Australian constitution still offers New Zealand to become an Australian state but obviously, New Zealand has not yet taken up the offer.
New Zealand is a separate independent country, and in World War I, troops from both countries participated shoulder to shoulder on the Gallipoli (Turkey) front. There was a time in the colonial era when New Zealand was a colony of the present state of New South Wales. In April 2015, the centenary celebrations of ANZIC were held. On Anzac Day in 2015, the world commemorated the centenary of the landings at Gallipoli. This was a significant milestone in the Anzac Centenary commemoration program, which continued through to Remembrance Day in November 2018.
