In a remote town in the Northern Territory inaccessible by road for half of the year, a small community is taking control.
The people of Wadeye are embarking on an adventure which they hope will revolutionise their economy.
The Kakadu Bush Plum - not much bigger than a grape - has the highest concentration of Vitamin C of any fruit, anywhere in the world.
General Manager at the Women's Centre, Margo Northey says a new project based around the bush plum is just the kind of program the town needs.
"There's potentially a lot of money to be made", Margo says.
"But I think more importantly it's a really good opportunity to give a really positive profile to Wadeye. We've had our share of negative stories over the time."
Known as Memaral to the locals, the olive-like fruit grows wildly in the Top End and across the north of Western Australia.
It's medicinal properties are even being utilised by the international cosmetics industry as a way to rejuvenate skin.
"We've had extraordinary interest in this product, I've had phone calls from Japan, I've had emails from New York and that's beyond the companies in Australia who are really keen." Margo said.
Drawing on centuries of knowledge about the fruit and plants used in traditional diets, the people of Wadeye are now looking to take their venture to the rest of the world.
