A community devastated by the deaths of eight children in a Cairns house will continue their healing processes a year on from the tragic incident.

Hundreds of people are expected to gather on Saturday for a family day at a park near the home in the Cairns suburb of Manoora where four girls and four boys, aged between two and 14, were found dead in December last year.

The event, to include activities and a jumping castle, will be followed by a concert at the Brothers Leagues Club on Saturday night to remember the young victims, who were all from the same family.
James Gela, a family representative for those affected by the deaths, says a group of children from the neighbourhood, some related to those killed in the Murray St house, will perform at the concert.

"They've formed a group... and they've produced an album called The Songs of Murray St," Mr Gela told AAP.

"They've produced an album singing about the family themselves and just telling the story of Murray St.

"That was part of bringing the children through their journey of their connection of the children involved."

Mr Gela said the family was still rocked by the tragedy, but "the grief has subsided considerably".

"After sitting through and talking through the planning of what's ahead of us.... the families they explain they feel a sense of release," he said.

On Sunday, a pastoral and tree planting service will be held in the park next to where the house, which was demolished earlier this year, once stood.

Eight frangipani trees to represent the eight victims would be planted, Mr Gela said.

A permanent memorial has been planned for the site where the house was, but the family is still in discussions with the local council about what it will entail.

Raina Mersane Ina Thaiday, 38, the mother of seven of the children and aunt to the eighth, is facing eight counts of murder in court.
