Usain Bolt has become the first man to win the 200 metres three times in a row.

Bolt took out the race ahead of Canada's Andre de Grasse and France's Christophe Lemaitre.

He was disappointed as he crossed the finish line behind his world record time of 19.19 but he still won comfortably.

He is going for triple gold at the Rio Olympics, with the men's 4x100 metre relay still to come tomorrow.
Ryan Gregson has become the first Australian to make an Olympic 1500 metres final in 40 years.

Gregson ran a steady race and came from the middle pack on the straight to finish fourth.

Damien Birkinhead has finished finished tenth in the final of the men's shot put in his first Olympic Games.

His best throw of 20.45 metres was not enough to see him continue on to the last three throws of the final.

In the decathlon, Cedric Dubler has finished in 14th position after the 10 events.

He jumped the highest in his pole vault heat and second in hi 110 metre hurdles heat and in the discus he finished in 11th.
But in the javelin Dubler had a shocker, fouling disastrously in his second throw and nearly skewering a cameraman and throwing straight up in the air on his third and final throw.

It left his first throw of just 51.82 as his best throw, leaving him in last place for the round and bumping his overall ranking back to 19th.

Eleanor Patteron has finished 22nd in the high jump qualifying round, jumping 1.89 metres.

Unfortunately it was not enough to see her through to the final.
Kathryn Mitchell has finished sixth in the javelin final.

She was second after her first throw of 64.36 metres, but she was not able to better it, fouling three of her six throws.
Australia has had two men finish in the top 10 in the triathlon.

Aaron Royle and Ryan Bailie finished ninth and tenth respectively while Ryan Fisher finished 24th.

Royle and Bailie were the first Australian men to make a top 10 finish in the triathlon.

Sailing

Australia's sailors have continued their strong Rio showing, adding another two silver medals to their tally.

Mathew Belcher and Will Ryan brought home silver in the men's 470 medal race behind Croatian crew Sime Fantela and Igor Marenic.
They needed to beat the Greek pairing of Panagiotis Mantis and Pavlos Kagialis in the final race to move into the silver medal position and the two crews fought hard over the course.

Eventually Australia crossed the line in ninth position ahead of Greece in tenth.

Less than an hour later men's 49er sailors Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen won silver again after starting the medal race in third.
The pair has to finish ahead of the German team of Erik Heil and Thomas Ploessel to finish in second overall and managed to cross the line in fourth place, ahead of the Germans in eighth.

The New Zealand team of Peter Burling and Blair Tuke, who had dominated the regatta, took the gold.

Canoeing

Ken Wallace and Olympic debutante Lachlan Tame have taken home the bronze in the men’s K2 1000m behind strong crews from Germany and Serbia.

Speaking ahead of the race yesterday, canoeing team leader Richard Fox had indicated both teams would give Australia a run for its money, and he proved correct.
"We held next to [Germany] at the 500 metres and we knew they were going to push at the third 250 metres, but just to be next to them, going to head-to-head with them was fantastic, they simply raced better than us today, in a tough race we are just stoked to be on that podium," Wallace told olympics.com.au.

In the lead up to the race Wallace had traced the outlines of his three-year-old and nine-month-old sons' hands on his paddle and they were clearly visible during the race.
In final b of the men’s K2 200m, Daniel Bowker and Jordan Wood finished in third position.

Australia's men are not finished in the canoeing yet, with the men’s K1 200 metres, the men’s K4 1000 metres heats and the men’s C2 1000 metres heats still to come tomorrow.

BMX racing

There were three Australian men in the quarter-finals of the BMX racing hoping to progress to tomorrow's semi-finals.
Sam Willoughby and Anthony Dean both won their races and will move through to the semis, while Bodi Turner finished fifth in his race and was eliminated.
Australia's Caroline Buchanan and Lauren Reynolds will race in the women's semi-finals, which are also on tomorrow.

Diving

Melissa Wu has finished fifth in the final of the women's 10 metre platform diving.

Wu dived strongly with her third and fourth dives rating eights and nines.

She needed and top-marked final dive to have a chance of making the medals, but a slight over-rotation meant she ranked only sixes and sevens, leaving her in fifth.

Chinese divers Qian Ren and Yajie Si stormed ahead of the pack to win gold and silver.

Golf

After the second round Minjee Lee still has a chance of a medal after finishing four under par in the second round of the women's golf.

Lee shot six birdies in the first 10 holes to take the lead but struggled on the last eight holes, slipping back to equal 11th all round.

Fellow Austrailan Su Oh is sitting back down the leaderboard having shot one over par on the second day.

Taekwondo

Caroline Martin has been eliminated in the first round of the women's 57 kilogram taekwondo by Sweden's Nikita Glasnovic.

Martin had a chance to go through to the repecharge, but Glasnovic lost her next fight, meaning Martin loses the chance to fight for a bronze medal.

Kimia Alizadeh Zenoorin has become the first Iranian woman to win a medal, taking the bronze in the women's 57 kilogram category.

She defeated Glasnovic in the bronze medal match.

"I am so happy for Iranian girls because it is the first medal and I hope at the next Olympics we will get a gold," Alizadeh told AFP.

"I am very excited and I want to thank my parents and my coach. They really stand behind me and I am so happy."

Modern pentathlon

Chloe Esposito is sitting in 13th position after completing the fencing ranking round of the modern pentathlon.

At this point she is sitting just 48 points off the leader, Poland's Oktawia Nowacka.

She told olympics.com.au fencing was her weakest leg of the event.
"Last Olympics the fencing part was the worst for me so I really tried hard these last four years trying to change my fencing style and work really hard on it," she said.

"It’s just paid off. If I got 50 per cent [wins] I was going to be happy and I got over 50 per cent so I’m just over the moon."

Tomorrow the fencing round will conclude and athletes will also compete in swimming, show jumping, and combined running and shooting.

Eposito's brother Max is also competing in the modern pentathlon and is currently participating in the men's fencing ranking round.

Synchronised swimming

Australia has finished last in the team technical routine of the synchronised swimming competition.

The team was up against the best synchronised swimmers in the world and vice-captain Danielle Kettlewell said the team was pleased with their score of 74.0667.

"It definitely felt like a really good swim," she told olympics.com.au.

"For us part of the accomplishment is being able to get to the Olympics and do our personal best."

The team will complete its free swim tomorrow.
