MH17: Can Russia be held to account?

It has been over four years since Malaysia Airlines passenger flight MH17 was shot down over Ukraine. The families of the 298 victims want justice—but which court can give it to them?

On July 17, 2014 MH17 from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur was shot down travelling over eastern Ukraine – killing all 283 passengers and 15 crew on board.

With 196 Dutch and 38 Australian nationals on board, both countries point the finger of responsibility at Russia, which was then in military conflict in Ukraine.

Over four years later, families of the victims continue to chase justice – but a series of complicated legal questions have halted their charge.
