The first graduates from the Wiradjuri language, culture and heritage program at Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga, threw up their hats on Monday.
Course coordinator Mr Lloyd Dolan told media the course was a great opportunity for students to learn or expand their language skills.
He said it also helped students “to play an active role in the revitalisation of Wiradjuri language, culture and heritage within their own communities".
The University's Emeritus Professor Stephen Kemmis said that the course encompassed a personal aspect.
“It is also designed to allow students to find their own ways into Wiradjuri language, culture and heritage, drawing on and sharing their own backgrounds, experience and expertise,” he said.
The program was developed by the university in collaboration with Wiradjuri Elders, including the late associate professor Ros Brennan Kemmis AM and journalist Stan Grant, to continue culture.
