While detail on Indigenous policy under a Coalition government may be scant, Prime Minister-elect Tony Abbott has stated repeatedly that it will be a primary focus of his government.
Mr Abbott declared at the Garma Festival last month that he hoped to be the first "Prime Minister for Indigenous Affairs", and named former Labor leader Warren Mundine as the man to head-up an Indigenous Advisory Council.
Mr Mundine spoke to SBS's Observer Effect program last night and explained how his opinion of Tony Abbott changed after the pair began meeting regularly to discuss Indigenous issues.
"We had an argument once and a couple of weeks later he rang and he said, look I am interested in what you said, I don't necessarily agree with it, but I'd like to learn more about that, so let’s keep our conversations going, and we did," Mr Mundine said.
“I noticed, and this is something people don't understand about Tony, is that he grew. He grew as Opposition leader, he grew in Indigenous affairs. To me, we totally disagreed, but now we are on one earth and unless we confront our history, unless we deal with it and move forward, we are always going to have problems.
"Guilt needs to be put out of this and this is the problem we always have in Indigenous affairs".
