An Aboriginal woman, who was left in hospital after a shooting in Townsville, believes her teenage son was the intended target.
Kittina Saunders, 39, was inside her suburban home on January 26 when a shot was fired into the house next door just before 8pm.
After rushing to check on her neighbours, a second shot was fired and the bullet struck her arm and torso.
Queensland Police arrived shortly afterwards and an ambulance took Ms Saunders to Townsville Hospital to treat her injuries.
"My understanding [is] they aimed for the wrong house," she told NITV.
“The bullet that shot me was supposed to be for my 16-year-old son."
Townsville detectives are investigating the incident.
"Investigations are ongoing and so far we have not charged any person in relation to the shooting," a Queensland Police spokesperson said.
Ms Saunders said she noticed suspicious behaviour in her neighbourhood in the lead-up to the shooting.
"It's been ongoing for a while," she said.
"Gangs have been driving up and down my street."
Once she has recovered, Ms Saunders said she intended to move her family to her hometown Woorabinda – an Aboriginal community 800km away.
