The body of an 18-year-old Aboriginal mother was found inside a wheelie bin outside of Newman Hospital located in Western Australia's Pilbara region on Wednesday morning.

WA Police confirmed officers were called to Newman Hospital, roughly five hours south-east of Port Hedland at around 4am, where the woman was pronounced deceased.

"Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman in Newman," WA Police said in a statement.

A male, who is known to the victim, is in police custody and was questioned by Perth homicide detectives who flew to Newman on Wednesday night.

According to Nine News, the 18-year-old woman was pushed in the wheelie bin to the hospital from a home 50 metres from Newman Hospital.

Three separate crime scenes have been established, and police have said there is no concern for the rest of the community's safety.

"This was a very confined incident and specialist investigators are in Newman now conducting inquiries," Newman Police officer in charge Jon Munday said in a statement on Facebook.

WA media had initially reported the woman was heavily pregnant; however, it was later confirmed the woman recently gave birth to her second child.

It's unclear where the children have been placed during this time.

ABC News reports the woman had previously sought help from domestic violence support services in Newman.

In response to the young mother's death, local police imposed liquor restrictions to the town on Wednesday with no takeaway sales allowed. Police will review this decision today.
